ReMinfo, a web-based information platform for newcomer refugees

An integration tool

With the ReMinfo project, SALMAA aspires to a Swiss society in which newly arrived refugees and migrants quickly become self-sufficient by having the opportunity to learn a local language, stay healthy, and feel supported and safe in their new environment. We anticipate that a good start will facilitate integration into Swiss society, which will benefit both the new arrivals and the local residents.

Our proposals:

  • User languages (Tigrinya, Arabic, Ukrainian, ... )
  • Simplified language
  • Visual content (photos, videos/animations, gifs)
  • Adapted UX design - ergonomics

The ReMinfo project envisages the development of a web platform that centralises important primary information and presents it in a simple, user-friendly, modern and interactive way, supporting users' visual navigation and allowing access in different languages. ReMinfo will provide easy access to existing content that has already been adapted and translated. This is to allow everyone to easily assimilate the information and to specifically address this service to newcomers who do not yet speak a Swiss national language. The languages targeted include, among others, Tigrinya, Arabic, Farsi, Tamil, Turkish, Ukrainian, Russian, English and French. These choices are based on national statistics on the languages of refugees/persons in the asylum process. In the first instance, we are considering a pilot project in Geneva, where most of our team members are based and where we have established collaborations with several associations working with migrants and refugees. In a second phase, we would like to extend the service to Lausanne and other French-speaking cantons as well as to Zurich where some of our members are based. In the longer term, our ideal would be to have this service run locally in each canton and available nationwide. The information will focus on key areas of daily life that are important for effective and long-term integration, such as health, work, language courses, social integration activities, legal and administrative support.
